Factors

For customers who will access the company website by typing in the company name, the factors to be considered in domain name selection are :
1. Length of the domain name : shorter names are easier to remember and less likely to be mistyped. However, due to the very limited number of two and three letter domain names available, these are likely to be very expensive.
2. Company name: The domain name should be related to the company name as it will be easier to remember, for example if the company name is XYZ corp, customers are likely to type in xyzcorp.com. Typos like xycorp.com should also be registered.
3. Top Level Domain,TLD : For a multinational company, with branches in different countries, the main website is usually a .com and the local websites in each country may be a ccTLD. In some countries like Germany and UK, the ccTLD (.de and .co.uk respectively) are more popular than the .com, so having the main website using the ccTLD may be more advisable.
